Hold Me Tight, by Sue Johnson, one of the creators of Emotion Focused Therapy, is a reader-friendly guide to the process of EFT and the idea behind this approach. If you want to find out how EFT works and whether it is a “good fit” for you and your partner or if you like to have a reference book while doing the work in therapy, I highly recommend this book.
Robert Karen’s Becoming Attached: First Relationships and How They Shape Our Capacity to Love, is an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning more about attachment history, research, and theory. Although there is less emphasis on the neuroscience of attachment, this is a remarkable work and a page-turner for attachment geeks.
How To Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk. This book is all about “Active Listening.” You know-- the skill couples learn for improving communication. Guess what! It works really well with parents and their kids too. And this book is written in a kid-friendly and entertaining way to teach us how not to take what our kids do and say so personally--for better relationships all around. Simple but not easy!

In Parenting From The Inside Out, Dan Seigel MD draws from his own parenting experiences as well as his extensive research and clinical work. He shows how the “triggering behaviors” in our children link back to our own early experience. Through this lens, parenting is a unique opportunity to explore your child’s world and rediscover your own childhood.
